Jinan Zoological Park is one of the large-scale zoos in China with a history of over 40 years. With the enthusiastic support of friends from all walks of life, it has become a comprehensive zoo embodying animal keeping, viewing & admiring, scientific research, entertainment and restaurant service. In 1995, it was named " Top Ten Zoos in China”by the State Construction Ministry.

　　After over 40 years' hard work, Jinan Zoological Park has made great achievements in popularization of animal knowledge, protection of animals and the scientific research and breeding of animals. At present, there are more than 3,000 animals in over 260 categories for people to watch. The zoo is divided into several sections including the animal exhibition section, entertaining section, popular science section, restaurant section and animal art show section. In 1999, it has opened a natural living area for peacocks; in 2000, it built the most advanced "Close to the Natural Ecology”section in China for herbivorous animals with an investment of 0.8 million RMB occupying a land area of more than 50 mu; in 2001, it opened a "Small Zoo”with 1 million RMB of self-raised funds which is deeply loved by people and the annual visitors are about 1 million people.

　　Now, it has the following national rare animals for show: giant panda, golden monkey, Asian elephant, giraffe, takin, kiang, white-lipped deer, white-eyebrowed gibbon, Francios' Leaf Monkey,lesser panda, red-crowned crane, white stork, black stork, etc.. In addition to that, there are over ten categories of imported animals for show like African elephant, chimpanzee, zebra, and various kinds of tropical monkeys. The zoological experts in the zoo have successfully reproduced many endangered species of animals such as Asian elephant, golden monkey, takin, black stork and white stork. The zoo has succeeded in breeding and producing harbour seals in fresh water, and this technique has reached the national advanced level. The reproduction study of the Bangladeshi tiger was awarded the third-class prize for scientific progress in Shandong Province and the cubs are living in more than 20 cities in our country. Besides that, the reproduction study of black stork was awarded the third-class prize for scientific progress by the Construction Ministry.
